Book Review – The Ghost of Glendale

Hello, wonderlandians. Good evening, everybody, I hope you guys are doing well. I hope today was a great day for you guys. I had said I was at the doctor’s office and my knee Is in a lot of pain. That’s okay though. I have a book review for you guys over The Ghost of Glendale.

This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review. As always I’m going to keep this extremely real with you guys on my thoughts and feelings of this book. And just because it was sent to me doesn’t mean that my opinions are hindered and on the way. And I hope you guys feel that way too.

As always we first start off talking about this cover.

The Ghost of Glendale by [Kleinman, Natalie]

At twenty-four years old, Phoebe Marcham is resigned to spinsterhood, unwilling to settle for anything less than the deep love her parents had shared. That is, until adventurer Duncan Armstrong rides into her home wood, larger than life and with laughter in his eyes and more charm in his little finger than anyone she’s ever met before. Far from ridiculing her family ghost, Duncan resolves to help solve the mystery which has left Simon Marcham a spirit in torment for two hundred years.

Cover Talk

Let’s talk about this covered. Honestly, I think she has movie poster written all over it and I’m living for it. The cover design is so well thought out and put together. I can tell you what time this book is Sutton and you can already tell it is going to be in the UK so. It’s just a great. I wholeheartedly approve.

This book is a refreshing reintroduction to the world of historical Romance with a dash of paranormal. Yes, you did hear me right a  refreshing reintroduction. I have not read this genre of book in 6 years. It takes a lot for me to really fall in love with a historical romance novel. Well, I love learning about the real-life history of England the part of it doesn’t usually do it for me. This one so you add a paranormal aspect to it and I am so here for it. The way this author writes I kid you not she paints a beautiful picture in your head. The other day I was watching Austenland which was a 2 episode mini-series that premiered on the BBC. I love watching Pride and Prejudice and Emma. Those are two of my favorite shows to watch when I’m feeling in the mood for a Jane Austen fixed. No, I’ve never actually read Any of her books but give me a movie adaptation and I will watch it. I still have to read a Jane Austen novel.

This is beside the point I was watching Austin Land which is a mini-series based off of the book and I loved it. It put me back in the mood I remembered that I had this book to read and when I jump into it it was incredible. I will say it first it was a little difficult for me to understand the way they were talking because it is a dialect from that time period. So this is one thing I honestly feel that the author gets so right in this book. The author really does transport you to this time period as you are reading her book. The characters are so beautifully written and the way that the story is told there is a Puzzle that two of the characters need to figure out. There is a bunch of stuff jam-packed into this teeny-tiny novel. The information that we’re getting is not overwhelming by any means. The Author was able to deliver a story in 113 pages. A lot of the time when an author attempt to fit a whole story in that amount of space I honestly feel like they miss certain things or they Rush scenes. I honestly don’t feel that way with this book.

Because of the fact that this is a little book I don’t want to say too much about the plot because again spoilers and I really don’t want to give them to you. So I don’t talk about our main character Phoebe. Baby is a woman far beyond her time. She is such a badass I love it. She doesn’t need a man she has resigned herself to the fact that she’s never going to get married. Can we please just put emphasis on the fact that she’s 24 years old. Why back then at 24 people thought they were old? Yeah I know I know that they didn’t really live that long back then I believe like the max age was like 35. I got it is just so weird to see such a difference in how you look today this is how they were back then. I’m almost 27 years old and I do feel like I’m old. But I’m just at the beginning of my adult life. But at the same time, I feel like I’m running out of life. I swear I’m not even 50 and I’m having an existential crisis. I love love love love this book. It was such a great break from the books I’ve been reading lately. And now I want to go read every Philippa Gregory book I can get my hands on. This book has put me in that zone to go read all of the historical fiction whether it has a paranormal element or not.

I honestly have to say that this is a standalone novel it wrapped up really nicely. I am completely satisfied with how this book ended. Typically when it comes to short novels I find myself very unsatisfied with how the book I bought this one wrapped up in one nice neat little bow. So I cannot recommend this book enough go pick it up.

Cover Reveal – Don’t Cheat Me

Hello, wonderlandians. Today I have a cover reveal for you from the lovely people over at Xpresso Tours.

Don’t Cheat Me
Jackie May
(Nora Jacobs #2)
Publication date: May 21st 2018
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy

One month after Nora’s violent induction to the dangerous supernatural side of Detroit, she’s finally settling into her new life as the underworld’s token human. All she wants to do is mind her own business, enjoy her new friends, and stay safe. But that’s easier said than done when she’s such an enigma to everyone around her.

Thanks to her unique psychic abilities, she’s garnered a reputation for being mysterious and powerful. When the alpha of a local werewolf pack asks her to help him figure out who is stealing from him, she can’t say no, even though getting involved in pack business could have deadly repercussions.

While tangled up in a heap of werewolf troubles, Nora can’t quite shake her old vampire problem, either. Henry is practically stalking her, Parker is breaking down the walls around her heart, and Nora’s blatant fear of the blood-sucking monsters is a delicious temptation for the natural predators.

Nora’s succubus friend, Cecile, believes throwing her a “coming out” party into underworld society is the best way to solve all of her problems, but Nora disagrees. If the vampires and werewolves don’t kill her, Cecile’s party planning definitely will.

This is book 2 in the Nora Jacobs series and should be read after book 1. It is a slow burn reverse harem series.

Hello, wonderlandians.

You know it is! So that means it’s Free Friday. Where I give you a free book recommendation. Usually, form a genre that I’m really loving. Right now I am really into MC books. One thing I love doing is picking out what is real and what has been exaggerated or just made up.

Today I have a short one for you. Only about 80 pages there and audiobook to this that you can add on for $1.99 through amazon. Truly not worth it in my opinion. The book is only 80 pages.

Wild (Dark Riders Motorcycle Club Book 1) by [Day, Elsa]

Which will she choose? Love, or safety?

Lilly Clarkfeld just wants to be a regular college student. In her dreams she is a nurse, has a family, and is safe. That’s not much to ask.

But when she’s forced to return to her childhood home because of her mother’s illness, everything changes.

Lilly’s car crashes and she’s taken in the night by the Dark Riders. It could have been any motorcycle club, but it was his.

Lilly’s first love.

Asher Thomas is bigger, stronger, and more damaged than Lilly remembers, but he never forgot about her.

They still burn for each other, but is this the life for Lilly? Can she put her white picket fence dreams on hold and trade them in for the rough love of an outlaw biker?

Wild is the first entry in the Dark Riders Motorcycle Club serial, following the story of Lilly and Asher. The series contains strong sexual themes, and is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

What do you guys think? Will you pick it up? Let me know.

What I’m Reading Wednesday

Hello, wonderlandians.

So today is what I’m reading one day is kind of a crazy one. I am currently in a self-induced 24-hour read-a-thon. So there are two books specifically I need to get done for a review. One of the books was sent to me back in February but I’ve been slowly reading because of the content of the book and I can 100% tell you the book is going to gut me. It’s really good so far I think I’m almost halfway through the book but with every passing page I know I will probably end up crying so I’m trying to hold on as much as I can. And the other book I meant to get done last week but a lot of personal stuff going on. So my reading over the last week I haven’t really been doing or I’ve been reading book take my mind off of what’s going on. So the two books that I need to read are more happy and content so I needed to be in a right mindset to get these book done and finished because I know I will probably be in another reading slump after reading these two bucks so sadly I am trying to procrastinate finishing these books the reading them little by little kind of help. Last week what I’m reading Wednesday I put a book called Somebody’s Daughter and that’s one of the books that I’m currently reading. That was sent to me but I did end up buying the audiobook to support the author. I’m really enjoying the audio I’m switching between all Three of the different formats that I have. So Today I but I completely just smashing through that book. One thing that I’ve noticed about these two bucks in particular. Oh, I haven’t even mentioned the other name of the other It is called when love isn’t enough.

So each book at the end has questions that goes through the entire book that you can answer. I think that’s actually really cool because both of the books deal with sort of having your content that goes into everyday life.

When Love isn’ enough deals with meeting the right person at the wrong time and everything that can happen when trying to be friends with somebody that you are in love with but it doesn’t really work out. Also it deals with what a guy feels so much loyalty to one girl but he’s in love with another one that is kind of stringing the girl that he’s in love with a long but there’s so much history between him and his current partner that he feels he stays with her out of loyalty is actually it. So I have been dissecting And analyzing this book thoroughly because it does deal with such a topic and the question that are in the book have really intrigued me so I’ve known people that just happened to so for me this kind of is a more of a sensitive subject because I’ve known people who have gone through this. One thing I will always say about situations like these and you may not always agree with what the people are doing and I completely agree that it is wrong for the kind of string along the girl that he wants to be with and just stay with somebody out of loyalty and because you feel like you have to stay with them. When you know it’s over you should do that person a favor and leave. I don’t want to go into any more specifics of the book kind of the gist of it. I will go more in-depth. So as I was saying you really don’t know what you would do until you’re put in that situation so judging other people is never really a good thing to do.

Now, so the other book Somebody’s Daughter I have my theories about what is going down in the book. I think the book has to do with the mother getting raped. I’m not quite sure I do know that there’s a series of events that happen with one of her twin daughters that kind of brings back all these memories of when she was a teenager. This book Talks about oversharing in today’s society with all of the social media all that’s going on in the world. So I’m definitely intrigued to find out what happens in this book and how both eras of life kind of company in this one book.

Somebody's Daughter by [Weinstein, Rochelle B.]

Here is the question for today what are you guys reading and are you guys doing Dewey’s 24-hour read-a-thon on Saturday. Unfortunately, I’m going to be at work so I will not be participating in this one that is why I’m doing a 24-hour read-a-thon.

As always thank you guys for joining me here in our little part of Wonderland. Please do not forget to see the unicorns on your way out they are loving all the visits that you guys are giving them.

Book Review – Challenged

Hello, wonderlandians. Today I have a book review for you guys. I have been cranking out the books lately just listening to book after book at the book. As well as reading books that have been sent to me for review. I think I am finally out of my 2-month reading slump. Thank God because it has been killing me not being able to. So we are back with the biker book. I stopped with motorcycle clubs.

As always what starts off with the cover.

Challenged audiobook cover art

I am really enjoying this cover in particular. We got the hot guy on the Bike and he is smoking. I love the fact that this cover is red. I have noticed that was a lot of the books I’ve been reading lately the covers have either like an ombre color shift to them or just of some kind of color. That really makes a cover stand out. If I were to see this book on a bookshelf in a bookstore I would definitely be drawn to it because it definitely pops and stands out from other books in the bookstore. So whoever came up with this design did a fantastic job.

I get what’s mine.

As the gun lay heavily in his hand, the weight of it was nothing compared to the pressure his father had put on him and the Vipers Creed Motorcycle Club year after year, dragging them all down in the process.

Cade had two choices: the club or his father. The club won.

It took a particular kind of man to kill his blood, but Cade had always believed in doing what was right for the club. To him, it was a small sacrifice to make things normal for him and his brothers. Then, when Trixie strode into his club, his normal was shot straight to hell.

Nobody steals from me.

When an employee stole from her, Trix Lamasters could have let it go. She could have let the thief fade into the background and chalk up the missing cash as a loss. She was Trix, after all – she always landed on her feet. But that wasn’t her style. She was too stubborn, too damn proud. No one stole from her and lived to tell about it.

With pride, though, came consequences, and Cade Baker was hers.

This was a different kind of empty book that I have not read before. I have really been in the mood for more southern-based motorcycle club book. I just so happen to stumble upon this one first and I really enjoyed this book. We have a dual perspective going on here.

Let’s talk about our mean girl first. Her name is Trix or Trixie. Her character is one that I really love reading about. She is a total badass. Now Trixie is the owner of a strip club called Sirens. I thought it was super funny because I’ve been super into mermaid books lately and the fact that her Club is called Sirens was kind of cool. Now Trixie Loans the money out to one of her girls and unfortunately the girl and the disappearing. This is what really kicks off the story and where we meet Cade (Spook). Now Buch is your typical alpha male. He’s in charge he lets everybody know it and if it’s not done his way he’s going to have something to say about it. The one thing that I did find and what I do find with a lot of our alpha male characters is that when it comes to the girl that they love they have a soft side to them.

I really like the overall writing style of this book. I felt it was very quick to get into and her me if a book doesn’t grab me rather quickly then I know it’s not the book for me. I was hooked within the first scene. The pacing of the book overall with super quick and one thing that I ended up really liking was Trixie never changed who she was to fit in with spook. If anything I found that Trixie was changing spook but for the better.

Now I did read this as an audiobook and so I would really like to talk about the two different narrators for a minute. They were Mason Lloyd, Kendall Taylor. Mason Lloyd I really like how he ended up reading for our male main character. He has a very nice smooth and rough voice. So I found listening to him wasn’t really a chore or struggle. The one thing I do find with men reading is sometimes they can make the girl sounds a little ridiculous. I really didn’t have that issue with Mason Lloyd. Kendall Taylor I really like her voice as well. I find that if I stumble upon her reading another book I will definitely snap it up. I love when I go into a book with new narrators and end up coming out the other side really truly loving both of the narrator’s. Sometimes I find that I like one over the other so this was a real treat that I found that I like both.

One thing though that I did find to be a little weird is there are in the book where it kind of goes back into the past and I think because I was listening to the audiobook it wasn’t very pronounced in the book. I’m sure if you were reading it would be much more obvious. Something to take into consideration but overall I would recommend this book whether you got it in physical, ebook, or audiobook I do highly recommend this book overall. I do know that there is one more book in the series that I have yet to get to but when I do I will definitely update you guys on what I think of the book,

As always thank you guys for joining me here in our little part of Wonderland. We are growing so fast. Please do not forget to feed the unicorns on your way out there loving all the attention that you guys have been getting them lately.

20180422_085932 (1).jpg

Now I really wanted to do a post about my bookshelves. I recently just reorganized all of my bookshelves and I like how I did it but at the same time I’m kind of not liking it. I haven’t found a way to put these bookshelves the way that I want them. Technically what I use for bookshelves aren’t even bookshelves and I don’t know what they’re called but they’re like self storage space. Since I moved I have been using them as a bookshelf. And I just realized I have given away so many of my actual physical copies of books that I know that I’m never going to read. So I have now so much more space on those bookshelves. I also have a little collection of books in my bedroom. So I am currently in the process of decorating my entire apartment. When my fiancé and I first moved in I didn’t really decorate cuz I didn’t know how long we were going to end up staying in this specific apartment so I didn’t really want to start decorating and putting things up if we were just going to move in a year. It looks like we are going to be staying here for a couple of years so I’m excited.

What I really want to know from you guys is how you have organize your bookshelves. As well as what kind of bookshelves you guys have because I’m in the process of trying to find a book shelves. I like the storage space but I really want that to be more for like a display of like all of my favorite books. And then there’s the space in our bedroom that would be perfect for like a little reading milk or at least to have books there. So please let me know how you guys organize your bookshelves because I’m completely obsessed with shelfies lately.

As always thank you guys for joining me here in our little part of Wonderland. Please do not forget to feed the unicorns on your way out.

His hard body is pressed against my back and I can’t look away from our reflection in the mirror.
One of his hands leaves my breast and vanishes, unseen but not unfelt.

I never thought I’d bury my brother.

Brian Hatcher has a lot of nerve, I thought I’d never see his face again.
He left the police force to join the Iron Tornadoes, the very gang my brother was investigating.

I should hate him.
I want to hate him.
He has turned his back on everything he used to stand for.
Yet I want him, even though he’s turned into a stone cold biker.
