What I’m Reading Wednesday

Hello, wonderlandians. It’s Wednesday. Also, it is my day off. Sorry, this post is going to be really short. I have a lot to catch on with the blog. I wanted to get all of this done yesterday but I was in the hospital. My back was getting worse. Finds how I had a urinary tract infection that was starting to turn into a kidney infection.

So I think continuing to read the runes series by Ednah Walters it is starting to make me feel like I’m reading two different books but not in a bad way. So this book deals with Norse mythology. I read another book that. With Norse mythology and it was called the Mythos Academy series. I love that series and it deals with Loki and all this other really cool stuff. This series that I’m currently reading or rereading is really bringing the vibe of that story. Not in the same way though it’s a very unique twist to the Norse mythology. then when it comes to the aspect of the rooms I feel like I am somewhat reading The Shadowhunters series but in my humble opinion I feel like the series is better. I have tried to get into The ShadowHunter series so many times and unfortunately that series is not for me. If there are people out there who can’t get into the Shadowhunter series I would highly highly recommend this as an alternative series for you

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something…

The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan…

She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again. But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Project Odette Update #3? Plus A Video To Watch…Maybe?…. If You Want To.

Hello, wonderlandians. I need to start this post by saying that I am so so so sorry to everybody. I open the last 3 weeks on Sundays have been super lazy and not been posting a damn thing. Again I am so sorry. My back for the last few weekends has hurt tremendously. Today is no different in fact I think I have Messed my back up even more somehow. I don’t know how I did it. I was told I needed to restrict movement but also move. It really makes no sense I swear. Today I decided to venture out into the jungle of people that is in the world. I would rather be in an actual jungle where the unicorns are. I need to be with my children at some point. I’ve got like seven of my kids here in my room with me. So today I decided I wanted to go to the bookstore because I was missing two books by E L James to complete my sort of Fifty Shades of Grey collection. I was missing Fifty Shades Freed with the movie cover and then darker. And I got a milkshake and chipotle and apparently by walking around for an hour I have somehow managed to make the pain move my back. I have no idea my life is just a mess. I am in 80-year-old woman trapped in a 26-year-old body.

In other news though I have gotten to 4000 words and project Odette which makes me super happy. I think in April when it is Camp NaNoWriMo I will be going full on with this project. When it comes to things like camp NaNoWriMo and NaNoWriMo I have always the best of it touch it but it never pans out the way I wanted to. I think that gives me a total of 2 full chapters done but I also have little bits to the book that aren’t in chapter form. I personally think this is a really cool set of how I have it. So I have the book in chapters but then I also have personally the letters to people in my life. I really wanted this book not only to be very personal to me in the fact that I do have OCD. I wanted this project to also include certain people in my life so I have written letters to go into the book itself. I think it is a really really cool idea.

Last year I read Amy Schumer’s autobiography. I ride Lily Collins autobiography and that was such a cool audiobook to listen to. I also listen to Lilly Singh”s Book called How to be a Bawse. So listening to all of those books on audio have really given me an idea of how I want my book to be laid out. And then listening to Howie Mandel’s book got me thinking of how I wanted to approach the topic of Obsessive-compulsive disorder.Sadly I’ve asked unicorn children if they would give me some of their unicorn magic to write this book and they told me no. It’s fine I don’t need their unicorn magic I can write this book myself okay. It just makes it harder.

In all seriousness though this book is going really well and I’m so excited for the fact that I’ve hit 4000 words is insane to me. It’s great I’m so excited and I’m so happy where this book is headed. The fact that I am writing about An issue that is not very widely talked about at all makes me happy. Also terrified because I am so afraid that nobody’s going to understand the topic at hand because it goes so much more than the obsessive-compulsive disorder itself. Well, I do talk about OCD and the whole spectrum of it. I will be talking about a very small section of obsessive-compulsive disorder that I don’t think a lot of people know about. Which can be taken very very wrong if not done properly. But seriously you can Google the s*** out of it and It is very real. I was city that I will be talking about in this book I have personally had in my life and I had to deal with it for over 10 years of my life.I’m going to provide a link to a video that I did a couple of years ago I want to feel like 3 or 4 years ago that has to do with my OCD story. Click it go watch it if you guys want to maybe I’ll give you some idea where I’m coming from with this book.

That video itself just really scratches the surface of what I want this book to be.

As her life spins out of control, she allows herself to be distracted by the two new guys who are suddenly showering her with attention, pulling her in different directions.

Book Review – Have You Seen The Sleep Fairy?

Hello, wonderlandians. Happy Thursday. I hope everybody is having an amazing day. I’m really excited about today’s review. I think this is the first children’s book I’ve reviewed Albus blog. It’s really really cute. the book I’m going to be reviewing today is called have you seen the Sleep fairy? I want to give a huge thank you to Rachel over at Autoright and marketing and publicity for sending me this book to review.

This book was sent to me to review in exchange for an honest review. All opinions about this book are my own.

This sweet story is simply told by the author and beautifully brought to life in this new illustrated children’s story. Get your children into the habit of sleeping through by reading The Sleep Fairy to them and applying the idea to your family routine. Here’s to you and a peaceful night’s sleep.

Cover Chat

I have to say overall I really like this cover. The style of the artwork is really awesome. And it carries through all of the book. I don’t want to take a look at this cover with the blue color is running through it. I know blue is supposed to be a really calming color. So mix that with the darker colors with the black. All I want to do is crawl in bed read this book and then pass out and go to sleep.

Thoughts

I really like this book and would recommend it to all of the parents. I know after I read it I was ready to go to sleep. Just thinking about it I want to curl up in bed. The art work in this book is out of  this world. I swear if you look at the pages close enough (which I may or may not have) you can see every little brush stroke.

This book is really cute and I wish this was around when I was a kid. I know I will be telling my aunt about it. Her kids are small and would love this book.

What I’m Reading Wednesday

Hello, wonderlandians. Happy Wednesday. Today’s post is going to be a short one. I am sorry I have not really been responsive this last week. I just found out yesterday that I have some how managed to sprain my back.

Image result for back pain gif

How does one sprain their back you ask. I HAVE KNOW IDEA!  I woke up and there it was. From the eyebrow dying incident to my back. I am just not having any luck this week.

We are here so you know what I am reading. This book is a reread for me. Although I am listening audiobook. I wanted to reread this book but in a different format. I am enjoying the audiobook. I will review when I am done with it.

This is the book that I am currently reading and it looks like it got a cover redesign. The cover on the left is the original cover. I will as always do a cover comparison when I do my review.

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

Book Review – Spelled

Hello, wonderlandians.  How is your Tuesday going? I hope it is going great. So today I have a review for you guys over spelled. It is a book that I finished last week and I am just now getting around to writing the review. I am so sorry. what are you guys doing today? What are you guys reading? I’m curious. I am constantly trying to figure out new things to read. So I did something super stupid last night I dyed my hair and I thought it would be a good idea to dye my eyebrows the same color. I used the same box dye. You are not supposed to do that and my eyes burned all last night. I didn’t get the guy actually in my eyes I think it was the fumes. And then I put a saline eye drops in my eyes and I think the salt from it has burned my eyes. I don’t know I was so scared I was going to go blind. But as long as you don’t get the dye in your eyes  then I guess you’re fine. Or so my mother kept telling me every 5 minutes when I was calling her. So I thought that would be a funny little story for you guys. I really do not recommend dying your eyebrows with hair dye that’s meant for your head.I’ve known a couple people who’ve done it and it’s been perfectly fine for them but I swear I’m a hypochondriac. I’ve never been diagnosed with me self-diagnosing. But I have a tendency to believe that anything that can happen to you can happen. so I should probably go and get that checked out to see if I really am hypochondriac. Lesson learned don’t dye your eyebrows with box dye.

Alright, guys let’s get the covers of this although I do know a lot of your opinions because I did post those book covers on my what I’m reading Wednesday.

So the two covers that I’m walking at our the audiobook cover and the paperback and hardback cover. A lot of you guys said that you like the paperback and hardcover better than the audiobook. I am not certain that I necessarily agree. When I look at the audiobook cover of the girl running I have to admit she does look very skinny. And I’m not talking about a good kind of skinny to feed her a cheeseburger. But I have to say I kind of like the shoes better in the audiobook version. The shoes look like they are the white part is pearl all around the shoe and then you’ve got the Ruby heel. I mean hardback and paperback versions it looks like it’s just material on there. So if I could have the shoe from the audiobook cover on the paperback version I would be so happy. It does look like on the rest of the series that when you’re looking at the audiobook verses a physical copy the shoes are different. So if I could take the shoes from the audiobook version put them on the physical version I would be very very happy. Regardless they’re both beautiful covers and I’m happy with them both.

So as soon as no I’ve been super into retellings lately. I recently listened to an awesome book called spelled. Which in a post for what I’m reading Wednesday I kind of compared to of the covers. So I am here today to kind of give you a review over the book. I didn’t go into this book knowing that it was a retelling. I was pleasantly surprised. my thoughts are going to be a little all over the place with this review so I’m sorry about that.

This book is about a girl named Dorothea and she is the princess of emeralds. So Dorothea is essentially the great great great great great granddaughter of Dorothy I want to say from The Wizard of Oz. So this book is a kind of Wizard of Oz retelling. It takes bits and pieces of the original Wizard of Oz but the author really turns the bits and pieces into its own world. I really like this about the book because it takes the story that we know in love but brings a brand new refreshing twist to it. Meaning you don’t know everything that’s going to happen in this book. Not only is this a Wizard of Oz retelling but there are a lot of different elements from all the classic fairy tales that we know and love.

When I first started reading this book it gave me Ever After High vibes.

Image result for ever after high transparent

If you guys don’t know what Ever After High is it is a TV show on Netflix. It’s about the children of classic fairy tale characters. Now the reason I’m bringing up Ever After High is because our main character Dorothea reminds me a lot of the character Apple White from Ever After High.

Image result for apple white transparent

Dorothea is a self-obsessed princess. She loves her designer clothes. What sets off the chain of events is she wishes at this star. since she was just this start all this chaos ensues and she believes it’s not her fault. A lot of her inner dialogue is me me me . Applewhite a lot of the time in Ever After High she’s always worried about her own happy on the day. what’s awesome about this book is we see Dorothea’s change ever-so-slightly. She doesn’t go through this big dramatic change. I believe the best person who said it her name is Amanda. I watched her review of this book and I am going to leave a link to her video. It is perfect.

Amanda K Thompson

Now we’ve got Roxi who is the daughter of Robin Hood. She is such a funny and sarcastic character. one of the really cool things that I like about her she’s kind of a kleptomaniac. She has to swipe everything. Now I don’t exactly know what character she would fall under in Ever After High. Then we have our prints, Kato. I absolutely love him he’s super funny. He is kind of this mix of mysterious and kind of obvious at the same time. Or at least that’s what I got from him.

One thing I’ve noticed is that when authors tend to make up swear words or any kind of lingo in a TV show or a box it’s either hit or miss. I actually really love the fact that there are made up swear words in this. Again this fits the theme of Ever After High. A lot of there language at the teenagers use to have to do with fairy tales. the fact that Dorothea says pixing a lot makes me so happy because I’ve now started to use swear word in my everyday language. And my favorite word is the f-word if I’m being honest. So it’s kind of funny switching it out. So now I say I am so pixing mad.

But in all seriousness, you guys want a fun, light-hearted, and fast read I would definitely check this book out as well as the other books in the series.

Thank you all for joining me here and our little part of Wonderland. Don’t forget to feed the unicorns on your way out.

Until next time

Book Review – Gun Shy

Hello, wonderlandians. How are you? I am doing good. Trying to recover from this last read. The first half of this review I wrote when I was almost done with the book. I have now finished it. I am sitting here thinking what did I just read.

Image result for What gif

I will get into more soon.

This book was sent to me by the author. So thank you so much to Lili St. Germain. This review is going to be my honest opinion. I am in no way in this review going to be bashing the author or this book.

Now with the disclaimer out of the way lets get started

Cover

Synopsis

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS GIRL?

In the middle of a fierce snowstorm in Gun Creek, Nevada, a teenage girl disappears without a trace.

The second girl in nine years.

Identical cases. Identical conditions. Only last time, the girl was found. Dead, stuffed in a well beside the creek that feeds the town’s water supply.

The killer was never found.

As the small town mobilizes and searches for newly vanished Jennifer Thomas, one suspect comes to the fore. But did he do it? Or is there something else at play? Something nobody could have anticipated?

For Jennifer’s friend Cassie Carlino, the worst is yet to come. As she pins MISSING posters to store windows and joins the search, she begins to suspect that Jennifer’s disappearance might be much closer to her than she could have ever imagined.

This book needs to come with a huge disclaimer. So I’m going to give you one. This is also going to be a trigger warning for people. This book contains emotional, Mental, physical abuse. There is statutory rape and rape. This book deal with the topic of incest, kidnapping, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, drunk driving, eating disorders, and mental illness. This book has a lot to do with manipulation of another person.

Thoughts on the cover

I really like this cover. I think it is very well done. It matches the the tone of the book. The text looks amazing with the two tone coloring. You can tell who is on the cover of the book easily. It is a simple cover which is a stark contrast to what is actually in the book.

Review

I am more than halfway through this book as I’m starting to write this post. I honestly don’t know how to feel about this book. When I went into it I thought it was going to be a murder mystery dark romance. That is not this book at all. It is a psychological Thriller. I definitely would not classify this as a romance. As you saw from the disclaimer above this deals with a lot of heavy topics. I have read other books by this author and I have loved them. So this one book does not sum up this authors ability to write. In fact I think it shows just how well she can craft a story and how every book she writes is different.  To me I think this book speaks well to her ability to write.

I will have to say that the way the author writes this book is very good. With every book this author writes is very well written. she always shows not tells you what’s going on. There’s just enough description to give you a good picture of what’s going on in the setting of the story but you can fill in the blanks. With her other books, I was able to connect to the story and the characters. Unfortunately, with this one there was no connection drawn. I feel when it comes to this book specifically I had a very clinical approach to the way I was reading and the way I will be reviewing this book.

This book is held from a dual perspective. We start off with our male main character Leo. the book starts off he 17 years old he’s with his girlfriend Cassie who is our girl main character. They are a very fun loving couple. Basically, they’re the high school dream. Leo was the quarterback of his football team and Cassie was part of the cheerleading squad.Nobody really ever gets out of Gun Creek the town that they’re from. Leo his mother is a drug addict and he’s basically from the wrong side of the tracks. From what I can gather up until Leo drives his Mustang off the side of the highway with our girl main character’s mother in the passenger seat she lives a relatively good life.

After the night that changes everything for Leo and Cassie Our main characters change a lot. Leo spends 8 years in prison for causing the accident. So he is not the same person we meet at the beginning of the novel. Cassie  Is completely different. she’s basically a for more shell of herself with less freedom than a teenager. She is constantly being manipulated by her stepfather. At the start of the novel, there is a murder that happens with one of their classmates named Karen. Leo finds her in a well. This is the chain of events that starts everything for this novel. When you’re reading from the Dual perspective it seems like Cassie is telling you about her life as if she’s writing it down. We owe on the other hand you feel like you’re reading a normal book. He doesn’t address the audience in any way shape or form.

This really just the basic setup for the whole novel. I don’t want to go to much further into this novel in case I give away to many spoilers. I did listen to the audiobook version of this book. I LOVED the narrators. They were fantastic. I feel like this is the first time I have listened to these narrators narrate anything. Our narrators are Zachary Michael, Natalie Naudus. Zachary his voice is amazing smooth and deep. Natalie had a very calming voice. Which is kind of creepy for this book because of Cassie mental state in this book.

I still don’t know how to how feel about  this book even after finishing it. I has been almost 12 hours. I think Lili has done good job. I got sucked in. I need to know what was happening how it ended. I feel like the by the end of the book my mind is completely fucked over.

Related image

I don’t read books like this. I really wanted to get out of my reading comfort zone this year and I did with this book. It was a goal of mine this year and I did it.  So I think after writing this I am going to give it three unicorn horns. I am also working on how to get the image on here correctly so image three unicorn horns. Reasons being I feel like this book did its job. It was meant to get you thinking and boy am I thinking. While morally I can’t get behind this book. It is the darkest book I have ever read. Lili has crafted a very well constructed book. You have to keep reading to find out what happens. Lili did her job with this book. With all this mind this book was just not for me. Sadly. I love her other books and respect her as an author. So if you love really dark books I would highly recommend this book to you. For me though I will stick to her other books. I would highly recommend her book called Cartel It is really good.

Anyway thank you all for joining me here in our little part of wonderland. Please don’t forget to feed the unicorns on your way out.
